recently i had to go to mumbai for work and a part of me was looking forward to it. firstly its coz it's a new country i've never been to and the other part was the whole allure of india and from stories about how it's developing... i was pretty pumped up to going. but then of course u hear all the horror stories of food poisoning and how girls cant really go round by themselves etc etc
so after melvin's fashion show... i took the redeye to mumbai, landing at 530am!!! omg... just from touching down in the airport i knew the rosy side of mumbai that was in my head had to go out immediately. the airport was inefficient and people were just shoving in order to get onto the only escalator coz they had closed off the stairs next to it
got to the hotel in one piece and it was really nice! the view from my room
the hotel is located outside of downtown mumbai so basically for me to even do any shopping would need an effort and as far as my colleague was concerned, if i wanted to go out to explore, he'd have to come with me coz he thinks it isnt safe for me to go by myself. but we were so busy, i was only able to find time the day we were to leave to travel into downtown mumbai and take a look. the waterfront was really beautiful reminding very much like the bund of shanghai... old english style buildings looking out into the waters - only this time round it was more run-down.
it was really depressive driving round... i mean i did expect poverty and shantty towns. but the extravagence of the rich was really uncalled for?
as much as there's sooo many stories about how india's developing... there's still a long way for them. it takes forever for them to get simple tasks done etc etc sad to say... this was my first and hopefully last trip ever to india! haha

and here i thot im a terrible chinese for numerous reasons... but officially ryan has made me feel better about myself coz he's a worse indian! haha we were essentially unable to order coz he didnt know what was written on the menu! (and it was in english)
oh! but i did learn something new!!! it was about the religion Jain - these people do take vegetaranism to another level.... they dont eat anything dug up from underground! i mean imagine cutting out all garlic, onion and potatoes!!! its incredible! no more french fries... no more anything i cook essentially. oh well just something new to read up on anyway :)
