lunching at 53

the stars aligned last week when my gorgeous date, jeanette, had no work and i had no boss. so as always... when the cat's away the little mouses go out to play. or in this case, just take extra long lunches :D

it was great seeing michael as always and to finally find time to head down to 53 afterall, its been a really long time since i've been back and im glad to see that his food has actually matured and tastes a lot more cohesive. i really should make more time to go back more often... or at least everytime he changes his menu. anyway since this happened  more than a week ago, i dont quite remember the detail of the food but pictures always make up for it rite?

pork skin that tasted like really crispy fish skin like the ones you get in bangkok... just more awesome coz this is a much lighter version of it. and it came with carrot something and shaved parmesan?

i love love love their potato bread... both are the same thing but one had charcoal in it for the blackness.

now if only i can convince michael to give me some bread weekly and not need to go down to dine to have it

crabmeat with apple sauce at the bottom, walnuts, a really yummy crunchy something which is the circle things and croutons made from the potato bread

i had braised beef cheek for the main that came with pretty edible flowers and spring onions. this was really really yummy. the beef just melted in my mouth after being braised for a really long time. jeanette's other main which was basically roast pork with beet sauce also didnt disappoint

for dessert i ordered an apple crumble that had rosemary foam and hibiscus on it. while i really like the apple part of it the foam was wayyy too overpowering. so i basically pushed it aside and ate everything else up. oh! and right after serving it, it sprayed rosemary scented water too haha

jeanette's dessert i thot was the best... dark chocolate swirl with fruits and merigue kisses and sweet corn icecream. really really yummy.

schedule of 28th May, Saturday

10am - time s and i were suppose to be at zouk but thanks to s' crazy nite out the nite before, i only sent her back at 5+ without her camera only to get up at 10
10.22am - got to zouk in record time earlier than s too!
10.45am - realised there were stuff missing so i took the assistant, left s at zouk and went off to far east to get as many things as possible
11.30am - got a freaking out call on the way back something abt steps and not being able to count
12 noon - figured out the model moves for the girls outside at winebar with s less freaked out
1-2pm - practiced with girls and realised that s' computer has got problems and cant burn dvd
2pm - called leo freaking out abt this and he was an awesome friend to drop all his plans for the afternoon to come down and help us useless girls
3pm - met back at zouk with my car, full dress rehersal w the girls and leo there trying to figure out the formatting of the damn dvd player at zouk... this is one of the reason y mac sucks! haha
4pm - s left to get her hair and makeup done, leo and i left to hyatt for lunch/figure out the formatting
5.30pm - all met back in zouk to try the dvd out and it worked!!!
6.15pm - g came to take my place and i left to go home and get ready ie shower and change to look more presentable
7pm - show was suppose to start but of course it didnt till 8.15
9.45pm - FINALLY done with everything... left to find food

me being silly and trying on the big bow g made for the girls :)

oh and for the first time ever i got to be at the dj booth at zouk! how cool!!!

anyway the whole point of the day was s' show!

the music was suggested by g and put together by keith i think but whatever it is it was great!

then the 3 monkeys ran off to stuff their faces

after all the food... and adrenaline we had from the whole day of madness - we still made our way down to filter (g's first time ever) then nektar for some drinks before heading back to filter for abit more dancing :) i think till this day im still recovering from the exhaustion

oh wow its mid way thru 2011 already!

i know i've been really bad at keeping this blog updated... so much has happened after melb... it was off to bangkok for the extended weekend with the girls. tons of shopping, eating and spending money was done :)

and then it was a mad rush at work as we prepared for my largest conference to date. :) we had it in shanghai and it was great coz the turnout was amazing, discussions were lively and attendees were generally really happy... it was a wonderful feeling and im still running off that "high"

but of course on route to shanghai i veered a little off-course and spent a few days in hongkong :)

as always in hk its great to meet up with friends, shop and spend way too much, eat at my all-time favourite places including a trip to robouchon :)

and based on no reason at all... js and i had brunch at w hotel :)

the food wasnt great but its a fantastic place to people watch, good flow of alcohol and most importantly there's cotton candy! i wont complain :)

anyway life's just alittle bit more settled now and the next trip in sight is to europe which does remind me i do need to let my friends knw abt the dates.. now to tell my boss haha
